JuiceUP aims to make EV charging payment easier, no apps required

PETALING JAYA: A new player is making its way into the local electric vehicle (EV) charging business by offering what it calls an integrated open payment solution.

JuiceUP EV Grid Sdn Bhd claims its service would make it more convenient for EV users to use public chargers in the country.

The service, introduced today, allows users to pay with various widely accepted payment methods at any charging network without needing specific apps or subscriptions.

The company is working with banks and other organisations to make it work. Its partners included Visa, CIMB, Bank Islam and TNB Electron. The service, currently operational in some cities and towns, seeks to cover 80% of Malaysia's charging networks by 2025.

JuiceUP CEO Benson Lim said his company aims to make payments for EV charging as smooth as possible. He said the company's “Tap and Juice-up” open payment solution system is fast and convenient to use.

Present to launch the event was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

In May, JuiceUP announced it had teamed up with CIMB and Visa to introduce a first-in-market contactless payment solution, designed for charge point operators and their customers. The CIMB-JuiceUP-Visa partnership offers a simple way for EV owners to charge their cars using contactless debit or credit card payments.

JuiceUP is a startup based in Kuala Lumpur. Set up only just last year, it is a subsidiary of privately held Paidchain Sdn Bhd, which focuses on facilitating payment solutions for companies.
