PETALING JAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will resume full counter operations, including those at Pos Malaysia branches, on May 18 (Monday), says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong."At the moment, JPJ personnel nationwide are making final preparations for full operations to get under way, including ensuring that safety and health requirements are fulfilled," he said in a statement issued today.
He added that JPJ was also co-ordinating with banks to ensure that its services will return to normal next week.
Dr Wee noted that prior to this, JPJ had been opening its counters in phases following the Government's decision to open up the economy under the conditional movement control order (MCO) for specific matters until May 17.
"JPJ will also operate seven days a week to allow backlogged matters to be settled as soon as possible to avoid congestion of existing individual and commercial clients.
"This operation will continue until an order to stop is issued later," he added.
He said JPJ will operate between 8am and 4pm on working days and between 8am and 1pm on weekends, adding that the 8am to 1pm operating time would apply for several states which off days fall on Friday and Saturday.
He added that cash payments for all matters at JPJ branches would only be allowed between 8am and 11am while non-cash payments or e-payments via debit or credit cards will be accepted between 8am and 4pm on weekends.
Dr Wee reminded the public that private vehicle owners are still subject to the exemption from renewal of driving licences and motorcycle licences under the MCO on condition that they are covered by valid insurance.
He said JPJ counters would close for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations from May 23 to 26 and will resume operations on May 27.
He reminded the public and JPJ personnel to adhere to the Health Ministry's standard operating procedures to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
