Improved Shell diesel introduced for Peninsular Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Shell Malaysia, has officially launched its latest diesel fuel for use in Peninsular Malaysia while being lauded as the most efficient diesel fuel yet.

The new and improved Shell FuelSave Diesel was launched earlier in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan sometime in May last year and has been touted as the Royal Dutch Petroleum company's most efficient blend of diesel.

Now available nationwide in Peninsular Malaysia, the diesel fuel claims to improve fuel efficiency by up to 19km per 66-litre fuel tank found in light-duty trucks for an approximately 2% improvement.

Shell fuel scientist Colin Chin explained that the company utilised heavy-duty diesel engines found in trucks and buses to test the fuel and was found to provide up to 3.75% improvement in terms of fuel efficiency that's been validated by third-party non-Shell test houses.

"Of course, the gains experienced will differ with many factors to consider such as the current engine condition, driving conditions, driving style, traffic, ambient temperature, tyre pressure and vehicle load among others," he said.

Additional to the fuel efficiency gains is the fuel's ability to "deep clean" the engine by removing up to 64% of harmful engine deposits while also preventing future carbon build-up.

During a discussion, Chin explained that one of the main components is the engine's fuel injectors which are critical in delivering fuel to the combustion chamber.

"If the injectors are clogged with carbon deposits, they will negatively impact an engine's performance and this is where the new diesel formulation will help by removing the deposits so the injectors can operate properly - recovering both fuel efficiency and power delivery," said Chin.

Shell Mobility Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming said  carbon deposits could accumulate on critical engine components and lead to reduced airflow and uneven fuel distribution, resulting in decreased engine power, reduced fuel efficiency and increased emissions.
"The new and improved Shell FuelSave Diesel provides a practical solution, offering extended mileage to help drivers go further with every tank,” she said.

Seow added that the company is dedicated to supporting Malaysians by continuously improving its offerings to deliver greater value.

Shell Mobility Asia senior vice-president Tan Min Yih said Shell Mobility Malaysia is "more than here to stay" but also to thrive.

"Shell Mobility Malaysia is one of the most important markets in the Shell-world, not just for mobility, but also for the whole Shell group, and we are definitely here (Malaysia) to be stronger and go on for another 130 years or more," he said.
