STARPICKS
The new Hyundai Santa Fe is the first hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) in the D-segment seven-seater sports utility vehicle (SUV) that delivers an impressive fuel efficiency of up to 1,288km per 67 litres.Powered by the Smartstream 1.6L turbocharged hybrid petrol engine with a world-first Continuously Variable Valve Duration (CVVD) technology, the SUV optimises performance, improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions by adjusting the valve lifting duration and timing based on driving conditions.
The hybrid powertrain offers a combined system output of 230PS at 5,500rpm and 350Nm from 1,000 to 4,500rpm.
Drive goes to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Hyundai offers an eight-year unlimited mileage hybrid battery warranty.
If the battery’s State of Health (SOH) drops below 70% within the eight-year period, Hyundai will swap defective cells free of charge.
Meanwhile, the 2.2L Diesel Max variant, powered by a robust CRDi engine, delivers 202PS and 440Nm of torque to all four wheels through Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel drive (AWD) system for superior traction and handling in challenging terrains.
On the Diesel Max variant, the eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission provides more rapid shifts for acceleration performance.
The luxurious interior comes with 64-colour ambient mood lighting, soft-touch materials and an elevated centre console creates an armchair-like experience for the driver and front passenger.
As for ergonomic control, ease of use is ensured by intuitively positioned buttons on the centre console.
Unique to the segment, the Santa Fe gets a shift-by-wire gear system that also radiates a high tech appeal.
The Santa Fe stands out with its distinctive front design featuring a wide grille that emphasises a balanced, wide stance.
The LED daytime running lights (DRLs) create a unique T-shape at each corner, cutting through the grille for an unmistakable signature when illuminated.
A streamlined line connects the DRLs to the taillights, enhancing the Santa Fe’s sensuous and sporty appeal.
Accentuated wheel arches highlight its rugged character, paired with stylish wheels ranging from 17-inch (on the 1.6L Turbo Hybrid Plus variant), 19-inch (1.6L Turbo Hybrid Max) to 20-inch (2.2L Turbo Diesel Max).
The redesigned rear styling sees slim, illuminated taillight bars connect across the rear hatch while a wide rear reflector and skid plate form a striking three-layered aesthetic.
The Santa Fe is built on an all-new third-generation platform with increased ultra-high tensile strength steel and a multi-frame design that result in improved collision safety as well as better ride and handling.
The use of more aluminium parts, and overall chassis weight reduction enhances fuel efficiency while a more refined cabin delivers better comfort and driving experience.
Compared to the previous Santa Fe, the new platform offers 34mm more legroom to the second row seat and increased boot space (nine litres more).
The new Santa Fe also has advanced safety features and has Level 2 autonomous driving technology – Hyundai Smartsense’s front collision-avoidance assist (FCA) system is able to detect not just vehicles, but also pedestrians and cyclists.
The improved FCA function now comes with Junction Turning function that automatically brakes when turning at an intersection, if there is risk of a collision with oncoming cars in the opposite direction.
Other safety features include Hyundai’s Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Rear Occupant Alert (ROA) and Safety Exit Assist (SEA).
Prices start from RM195,888 for the Hybrid Plus, RM215,888 for the Hybrid Max, and RM209,888 for the Diesel Max which include a 5-year or 300,000km warranty, whichever comes first.
Hyundai Malaysia’s current promotions for the Chinese New Year are up to 9 months free instalment, and up to RM8,888 rebate.
