Hyundai celebrates 100 millionth vehicle milestone

SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Company has reached a significant milestone, producing 100 million vehicles globally since its founding 57 years ago.

The South Korean automaker celebrated this achievement with a ceremony at its Ulsan Plant, where it handed over its 100 millionth and first vehicle, an Ioniq 5, to a customer.  It was the first car for Kim Seung-hyun (in brown jacket), who is in his 20s.

At the event, Hyundai's leadership spoke of the importance of customer loyalty and the company’s commitment to innovation.

Hyundai Motor president and CEO Jaehoon Chang credited the company's rapid growth to bold innovation and vowed to continue pushing boundaries as a leader in the mobility industry.

“This milestone is only the beginning,” Chang said, promising future advancements in electrification.

The Ulsan Plant, Hyundai's largest manufacturing facility, played a pivotal role in the company’s history.

It was the birthplace of Korea's first mass-produced independent model, the Pony, in 1975, and today serves as a major hub for electric vehicle (EV) production.

Hyundai has been expanding its global footprint with production facilities in countries including Turkey, India, the US, and the Czech Republic.

Hyundai’s recent success has been fuelled by the launch of premium brands like Genesis and the introduction of EVs such as the Ioniq 5, built on its electric global modular platform (E-GMP).

The company is also investing in future technologies with the establishment of the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center in Singapore, a smart urban mobility hub aimed at advancing AI, robotics, and manufacturing technologies.
