Hyundai and Škoda team up on hydrogen mobility

SEOUL/PRAGUE: Hyundai Motor Company and Škoda Group have agreed to jointly build a hydrogen mobility ecosystem.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), formalised at the Korea-Czech Republic Business Summit in Prague, was signed by Hyundai Motor executive vice president Ken Ramírez and Skoda CEO Petr Novotný.

The partnership will focus on studying hydrogen fuel cell systems, energy-efficient mobility solutions, and exploring broader hydrogen ecosystem opportunities.

Hyundai aims to contribute its advanced fuel cell technology to help accelerate hydrogen adoption, particularly in markets like the Czech Republic, where Škoda operates.

Ramírez said the collaboration has the potential to drive hydrogen technology forward and support global carbon neutrality goals. Novotný spoke of hydrogen's crucial role in sustainable mobility and the opportunity to expand these innovations beyond national borders.

The MoU includes feasibility studies to assess the application of fuel cell systems beyond just mobility, with both companies exploring how hydrogen can advance cleaner energy across different sectors.

Hyundai’s HTWO brand, which drives the company's hydrogen value chain strategy, will be a key player in this transition.

Škoda and Hyundai see hydrogen as a fundamental component for a sustainable future, with the collaboration expected to boost eco-friendly mobility solutions in global markets, starting in the Czech Republic.
