Huawei unveils massive Maextro S800 electric sedan

SHENZHEN: Huawei has revealed official images of its Maextro S800, the largest electric sedan in China and among the biggest mass-produced sedans globally, measuring over 5.4 metres in length.

Developed under Huawei’s joint venture with JAC, Maextro is a premium brand, with the S800 set to compete with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and Nio ET9, according to CarNewsChina.

The Maextro S800 offers both battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) versions.

The BEV variant features three electric motors producing a combined 635kW (852hp), while the EREV uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine as a range extender, with total power output reaching 750kW (1,006hp) in its tri-motor configuration.

Both versions use ternary NMC batteries from CATL.

While the BEV's battery capacity remains undisclosed, the EREV features a 63.262 kWh battery, offering an electric-only range of 272km to 371km under CLTC standards.

Pre-orders for the S800 began in November 2023, with a 20,000 yuan (RM12,205) deposit required, though pricing details remain unknown.

Estimates suggest a range between 1 million to 1.5 million yuan (up to RM916,000),according to the CarNewsChina report.
