Honda to shift production of US-bound 5-door Civic hybrid to Indiana from Japan

TOKYO: Honda Motor will shift production of its US-bound five-door Civic hybrid model from Japan to Indiana, a company spokesman said today.

Production of the model in the Yorii factory, near Tokyo, is likely to end in June or July, the spokesman said.

The move follows surging demand for the electrified Civic, which was recently named the 2025 North American Car of the Year — a record-setting fourth win for the nameplate.

The Civic hybrid, featuring Honda’s fourth-generation two-motor hybrid-electric system, now represents a key part of the brand’s electrification push and is expected to account for about 40% of total Civic sales in the US.

Powered by a 200hp hybrid system producing 315Nm of torque, the Civic hybrid is offered as both a sedan and hatchback.

It delivers up to 4.7l/100km in city driving and benefits from performance-oriented suspension tuning and noise reduction enhancements.

The hybrid power unit is built in Ohio. — With additional details from Honda
