Here's what the first BMW M3 CS wagon offers

MUNICH: BMW M GmbH has unveiled its first M3 CS Touring, expanding the high-performance M line-up with a versatile estate model that promises an intense racetrack experience alongside everyday usability.

Building on the success of the M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive, the new variant raises output to 405 kW/550hp and employs extensive carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components for reduced weight. It accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 3.5 seconds, aided by an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and an M xDrive all-wheel-drive system optimised for dynamic handling.

The M3 CS Touring premiered at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, Australia, on Jan 30 in conjunction with the Bathurst 12-Hour race.

Deliveries will begin in March 2025, reaching customers in Europe, Australia, Japan and South Korea, among others, with Germany remaining the most significant market. Production takes place at BMW Group Plant Munich, alongside other M3 Sedan and M3 Touring models.

Under the bonnet lies a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine featuring race-bred technology, including a closed-deck crankcase, forged lightweight crankshaft and a 3D-printed cylinder head core.

The turbochargers’ maximum charge pressure rises to 2.1 bar, delivering 650Nm of torque from 2,750 to 5,950 rpm and a top speed electronically capped at 300kph.

A weight-saving titanium rear silencer accentuates the exhaust note, with drivers able to fine-tune the acoustic profile via selectable engine modes.

Power is channelled through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, offering three shift programmes tailored to comfort, sport or track driving.

M xDrive’s electronically controlled multi-plate clutch distributes power between the front and rear wheels, while the Active M Differential at the rear axle provides fully variable torque apportioning. Beyond standard 4WD, drivers can opt for 4WD Sport mode or a pure rear-drive 2WD setting (with DSC deactivated).

Carbon fibre is used extensively in the bonnet, front splitter, roof, mirror caps and rear diffuser, contributing to a 15kg weight saving over the M3 Competition Touring.

Model-specific adaptive M suspension and M Servotronic steering help deliver agile handling, while powerful M Compound brakes come as standard, with carbon ceramic units optional. Forged M light-alloy wheels in 19-inch front and 20-inch rear sizes are fitted with track tyres.
