KUALA LUMPUR: GWM Malaysia today previewed two electrified models that will arrive in Malaysia in 2025.
It unveiled the GWM Tank 500 and GWM Wey 80 at the press day of Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2024
The Tank 500 is a rugged yet luxurious seven-seater SUV, measuring 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a 2,850 mm wheelbase.
Powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged hybrid engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 342PS/337hp and 648Nm of torque.
It features 11 driving modes, Tank Turn, and Off-road Cruise Control for superior performance across terrains. With a high 36.9° approach angle, the SUV blends off-road capability with urban refinement.
The Wey 80, a premium seven-seater MPV, emphasises luxury and innovation. It is powered by a plug-in hybrid system featuring Dedicated Hybrid Technology (DHT), offering 487PS/480hp and 762Nm of torque. Its 37.96 kWh battery delivers up to 150 km of range (CLTC).
The MPV measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,900 mm in height, with a 3,085 mm wheelbase, ensuring spacious comfort. Features include premium leather zero-gravity seats, foldable workstation tables, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
GWM Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi said the new models highlight the company's dedication to sustainable mobility and meeting evolving consumer needs in Malaysia.
Globally, GWM continues to expand with impressive results. From January to November 2024, the company achieved overseas sales of 411,848 units, marking a 45.77% year-on-year growth. This figure surpassed its 2023 overseas sales, reinforcing its position in the global automotive market.
Locally, GWM Malaysia’s first Completely Knocked Down (CKD) model, the Haval H6 HEV, achieved strong demand with 600 units delivered. The company’s partnership with EP Manufacturing Bhd (EPMB) ensures global-quality assembly, further bolstered by extensive warranties for customer confidence.
Visitors to KLIMS 2024, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) from Dec 5 to 11, can explore GWM's offerings, including the Tank 500, Wey 80, and other models such as the Ora Good Cat, Ora 07, Tank 300, and Haval H6 HEV.
