KUALA LUMPUR: Today marks a new milestone for China Great Wall Corporation in South-East Asia. After Thailand, Great Wall Motor has now established its Malaysian subsidiary.Great Wall Motor (GWM) Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd (aka Great Wall Motor Malaysia) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Great Wall Motor Co., Ltd.
Great Wall Motor (Asean region) president Zhang Jiaming said in a video broadcast that the Malaysian market would be developed according to its Asean new energy strategy.
The strategy would, among others, tap local experience and help Malaysia to move from energy-efficient vehicles to hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, battery electric vehicles and fuel-cell electric vehicles.
Great Wall Motor Malaysia managing director Cui Anqi said the company would deepen its stake in the country by carrying out local assembly through the Go Auto Group, its Malaysian partner who has been its Haval SUV distributor since 2013.
Cui also said the Great Wall Motor ecosystem would be strengthened in Malaysia. It would include the set up of a spare parts centre in the Klang Valley and the establishment of a high-quality dealer network backed by a technical team and a 24-hour customer service centre.
Besides the Ora Good Cat - and the Havals that are already on sale locally - Great Wall Motor Malaysia promised more variety to come. They would include more models from the Ora range as well as urban SUVs, off-road SUVs and pickups.
At the event, he also announced that its Malaysian website at www.gwm.com.my is now live and members of the public can visit it to learn more about the company and the various marques it represents.
Among those present at today's opening of Great Wall Motor Malaysia were Chinese embassy officials and representatives from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), Tenaga Nasional Berhad and banks.
More than 100 guests including the Malaysia and China media and dealer representatives attended the opening ceremony.
