Shell Recharge opens its biggest EV charging hub in Genting Highlands

GENTING HIGHLANDS: The highland resort today officially becomes the country's highest electric vehicle (EV) charging hub and Shell Recharge's largest one as well.

The hub at Resorts World Genting comprises four 360kW DC chargers and six 22kW AC chargers.

The hub set up by Shell's electric vehicle charging network is the result of a collaboration with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia Bhd.

Charging rates are based on amount of electrons used (kWh based) rather than the length of time spent at the charging bay.

DC rate is RM2.80/kWh with a maximum charge per session of RM400, while AC rate is RM1.30/kWh with a maximum charge per session of RM200 (see tables for other details). The "highland" rates are higher than those at other Shell Recharge sites in the country.

Discounted DC rates are, however, available for users who are new Porsche Taycan owners, Shell Recharge members or have bought ParkEasy Plus credit bundle.

Shell Mobility Malaysia general manager Seow Lee Ming said the Genting hub was a major step forward in adding more charging points in the country.

"Two years ago, we launched our first Shell Recharge HPC (High Performance Charging) point in Tangkak, Johor which was followed closely by the announcement of the completion of seven HPC charging locations along the North-South highway eight months later.

"This latest milestone further cements our commitment in expanding our innovative e-mobility solutions nationwide, while providing assured speed, range and connectivity for EV drivers," she said, adding that more AC/DC chargers would soon be set up along the East Coast Expressway corridor.

To celebrate the opening of the Genting hub, Shell Recharge organised a Taycan convoy with the media to demonstrate the convenience of 360kW charging speed.

The Genting hub is located at 1,865 metres above sea level as certified by the Malaysia Book of Records, making it Malaysia's highest altitude EV charging hub.
