Gentari leasing 25 e-scooters to Lazada in trial project

KUALA LUMPUR: Gentari is once again in the spotlight as it announced last month it is leasing electric scooters to e-commerce giant Lazada.

Twenty-five such bikes would be used by Lazada in a pilot programme for its last-mile delivery.

Gentari said it is introducing electric two-wheelers as part of its "vehicle-as-a-service" (VaaS) offering, aimed at facilitating businesses to switch to EVs and help lower emissions from the transport sector.

It did not provide technical details of the scooters. We have reached out to Gentari to seek further information and will update this story should Gentari respond.

For context, Gentari started the VaaS in 2022 with local electric scooter maker Eclimo Motors using its ES-11 model.

The leasing scheme is supported by a growing network of charging infrastructure.

Gentari, which describes itself as a clean energy solutions provider, operates over 400 EV charging points, including 120 DC fast chargers, spread across 105 locations, making it the largest operator of fast chargers nationwide.

The vehicle-as-a-service offering has supported the decarbonisation of more than 3,400 vehicles across Malaysia, India and Indonesia.

Gentari said its strategy is in line with national objectives, including the National Energy Transition Roadmap and Bursa Malaysia's ESG reporting mandate.
