GAC Aion V targets the global market

GUANGZHOU: GAC's new energy vehicle division, Aion, has launched the new Aion V, its first global model with a range of over 700km.

Made in Thailand, the second-generation electric Aion V targets international markets with its design tailored to diverse consumer preferences, quality standards, and road conditions.

The Aion V departs from conventional SUVs with its rugged exterior and luxurious interior, blending classic and modern design elements. Aion said the exterior styling was inspired by the dinosaur Tyrannosaurus Rex, a fearsome predator of the Cretaceous period.

It features Aion’s AEP 3.0 platform, offering a cabin space of 4.42 m², a wheelbase of 2.775 metres, and an interior height of nearly 1.3 metres. Its boot includes a three-tier storage system for versatile cargo organisation.

The 5-seat vehicle is equipped with advanced electric drive, control, and battery technologies, boasting a range of 750km (CLTC cycle) and an energy consumption rate of 12.8 kWh/100km.

It introduces Aion's 400V+3C fast-charging technology, compatible with 99% of global charging infrastructures, providing up to 370km of range with a 15-minute charge.

Inside, the Aion V integrates GAC’s ADiGO PILOT system with a Gen4 AI algorithm and NVIDIA Orin-X chip. This setup features advanced AI and "multi-sensor fusion" technologies, enabling navigation without high-precision maps.

Prior to its launch, the Aion V was tested in 28 cities by 10,000 industry experts, media, and users, receiving positive feedback.

Available in seven trims, the electric SUV is priced between US$17,800 (RM83,000) and US$26,000 (RM122,000), which is up to US$6,900 (RM32,000) less than the old version. GAC Aion claimed it had signed up over 10,000 orders in less than two hours following the Aion V launch on July 23.
