FGV Transport Services receives new MAN TGS prime movers
By CARSIFU | 08 December 2022KUALA LUMPUR: FGV Transport Services Sdn Bhd (FTSSB) has added 41 units of the new MAN TGS prime movers with low emission Euro V specification engines to its land transport fleet as it ramps up its container haulage business.
The latest addition to FTSSB’s fleet comprises five units of MAN TGS 4X2 and 10 units of 6X2, both which will be used for container haulage.
The remaining 26 units are MAN TGS 6X4 which are ideal for heavy-duty cargo transportation.
The MAN TGS Trucks are assembled locally in Serendah, Selangor by MAN Truck & Bus (M) Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of MAN Truck & Bus SE of Germany.
The latest 41-unit deal is the second open tender win by MAN Malaysia from FTSSB following the earlier acquisition of 44 units of the previous generation MAN TGS Trucks in 2021.
FGV Holdings Bhd group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nazrul Izam Mansor received the first 15 units of the new MAN TGS Trucks from MAN Malaysia managing director Andrew O’Brooks and general manager Thayalan Subramaniam at FTSSB’s logistics hub at Shah Alam.
Mohd Nazrul said the logistics sector has been a strong contributor to the FGV Group’s financial performance due to improved handling and transport rates as well as higher throughput volume for the transport and storage businesses over the past year.
“This investment in a new generation of technologically advanced, fuel efficient and low emission trucks from MAN would enable FGV to uphold our pledge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of our commitment to sustainable business practices.
“The New MAN TGS Trucks would help grow FGV’s haulage business as they are able to comply with the strict Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) requirements of multinational customers,” he said.
The New MAN TGS Trucks for the FTSSB fleet comes with the latest technologies such as MAN Telematics and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that include Driver’s Airbag, Lane Departure Warning System and Advanced Braking System that includes Pretarder and Retarder among others.
O’Brooks said the New MAN TGS led the way in driver orientation, fuel efficiency, assistance systems, digital networking and, above all, sustainability,” he said.
“There is no better truck to help FTSSB evolve into a sustainable transport solutions provider,” he said.
O’Brooks also said it would be some time before fully-electric products such as the MAN eTruck and eBus could be viable options in Malaysia as local charging infrastructure is still underdeveloped.
“That’s why we remain committed to continuously innovating and improving our conventional products to meet the ‘real world’ needs of the transport industry today,” he said.
