BEIJING: The facelifted BYD Seal electric sedan was launched yesterday and comes with a LiDAR sensor on the roof to support its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), CarNewsChina.com reports.
The 2025 Seal is the first BYD model to have a LiDAR sensor.
It also features advanced Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology and an 800V platform.
Based on e-Platform 3.0 Evo, it has 1,200V SiC control system and 23,000 rpm motor. Its top speed is 240kph and it can sprint from 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds.
The new Seal has CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery integration and wide-temperature heat pump system. With the 800V technology, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes. Two battery options are available: 61.44 kWh and 80.64 kWh with a corresponding CLTC range of 510km and 650km.
The base variant gets a 170 kW (228 hp) rear-motor. Higher trims have 230 kW (308 hp) motor, while the top trim will have two motors with total output of 390 kW (523 hp) and all-wheel drive.
The new chassis adopts BYD’s Disus-C system to improve suspension, stability, comfort and handling.
The new Seal is the same size as before: 4,800mm long, 1,875 mm wide, 1,460 mm tall and 2,920 mm wheelbase.
Interior updates include new four-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, large rotating central control screen, minimalist centre console, hidden air-conditioning outlets and wireless charging pads. All variants have 13 airbags and W-HUD head-up display as standard.
LiDAR sensor supports autonomous driving, aligns with L2+ level DiPilot 300 system which includes high-speed and urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and Automated Valet Parking (AVP).
According to CarNewsChina.com, BYD will keep the name Seal for the battery electric vehicle instead of changing it to Seal 07 EV at the behest of its fans.
A plug-in Seal also made its debut. The Seal 07 DM-i, which replaces the current Seal DM-i, introduces BYD's fifth-generation DM technology. It's priced from 139,800 yuan to 195,800 yuan.
