EMMA Malaysia car audio and modification competition draws top cars
By CARSIFU | 09 August 2022GENTING HIGHLANDS: Some 135 top competition cars gathered for the EMMA (European Mobile Media Association) Malaysia 2022 Car Audio & Modifications Competition at Grand Ion Delemen Hotel here last month.
Automotive Accessories Traders Association of Malaysia (AAA) secretary Howie Choo said the two-day event was the biggest and most participated car audio and modifications competition in Malaysia since Covid-19 began two years ago.
The event was also held in conjunction of EMMA's 20th anniversary.
Choo who is also EMMA Malaysia president, said 2022's competition consists of two heats held in July and December with the final in March next year.
“We made our target of 100 vehicles and we are surprised that half of them were new competitors and some even came from Thailand to join our event. This is a good sign indicating the recovery of our local car audio economy!” he said.
Choo said the local car audio competition was held on highlands for the first time as the weather was relaxing and also to prepare local competitors for future events in countries with cooler climate.
“Some heavily modified competition cars that are not suitable to be drive up to the highlands can join us in the second heat which will be held in Kuala Lumpur in December, as competitors need to qualify themselves in the heat before they can enter the final event at KLCC with only a limit of slot available in March 2023,” he said.
Choo hopes the public could notice the difference of properly done car audio and modifications as EMMA encourages safe installation that also results in safe driving.
“Consumers now aimed at enjoying music at a moderate sound level with extreme quality instead of open trunk type of loud music blasting in the past. The fight for quantity is over and now is the era of quality,” he said.
Choo also invited car audio fans to join the EMMA competitor training and briefing to know more on building and modifying car audio system safely under certified EMMA trainers.
He also encouraged participants to register through EMMA Malaysia and compete in the upcoming EMMA Asia Final competition in November.
AAA president Cherrie Lim said it was her wish for Malaysian participants and judges to participate in overseas event.
She said overseas exposure would enable local participants and judges to gain more experience and prepare themselves for international car audio competitions.
“That’s the main objective of organising an event in a cold weather similar to other countries,” she said.
