KUALA LUMPUR: Austrian technology provider of the Infra-Red Toll Collection System on Malaysian highways, Efkon Asia Sdn Bhd, has launched the E-TAG device for the convenience of motorists who use the SmartTag lanes.

Priced at RM143, the E-TAG, which is to be used together with a Touch ‘n Go card, is sold at selected Shell stations and accessories shops.

The device is powered by a 9-volt battery and has a display for users to check the remaining cash balance in their Touch ‘n Go cards.

The device is similar to MaxTAG sold by Sigma Technology Sdn Bhd which can be bought for RM138 without shipping at www.lazada.com.my and www.11street.my.

Efkon Asia director Helmuth Blasch said both the E-Tag and MaxTAG feature new microprocessors and enhanced display for even better performance and reliability.

“These proven Infra-Red Tag devices provide peace of mind to users by providing secure transactions with the exact toll amount paid immediately visible.

“Most importantly, there is no possibility of cloning and risk of losing control of your finances through incorrect deductions,” he said.

Blasch said both E-TAG and MaxTAG devices are compact and portable, do not require specialised installation, robustly built with a high-impact resistant casing and able to withstand extreme temperatures.

Efkon also has plans to roll out its built-in Infra-Red devices now used in locally-assembled car models such as the Perodua Myvi, in the future as another convenient option to consumers.
