eBencana JKR app now updates road conditions affected by natural disasters
By THE STAR | 11 November 2024KUALA LUMPUR: The public can easily check which roads are affected by natural disasters via the eBencana JKR's mobile app.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that monitoring information from JKR's centre for disaster management (BiGBen) was now integrated into the mobile app.
BiGBen serves as a one-stop information centre for disasters involving state and federal roads under JKR Malaysia.
It monitors disaster-related events, such as floods, landslides, road collapses, road subsidence and damaged or collapsed bridges.
According to Alexander, the monitoring frequency increases with the severity of the situation, as categorised into green, yellow and red.
"If the situation is still green, meaning incidents occurred but are not severe. Monitoring will take place from 8am to 5pm, with reports twice a day.
"However, if conditions worsen, it becomes yellow, with stricter monitoring, and if it is very severe, affecting multiple states, then it’s red, with 24-hour monitoring, with reports six times a day," he said.
This information will now be reflected on the eBencana JKR mobile app.
Previously, the information was only available on its website and social media accounts, Facebook and X.
The app is available for download on the Google Play store and Apple App Store and Alexander encourages the public to download it.
Separately, he said that the status of the new West Coast Expressway (WCE) from Banting, Selangor to Gelang Patah, is at the approval stage.
"From what I understand, we are refining the process and are in contact with the Economy Ministry for approval and the allocation of the work," he said.
During Budget 2025, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the WCE Banting-Gelang Patah Highway Project will be constructed via the Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach, and it will be given priority next year.
