Dymag and Hankuk Carbon join forces with Hyundai on lightweight carbon hybrid wheels for N cars
By CARSIFU | 28 July 2023LONDON: Dymag and Hankuk Carbon are collaborating on advanced carbon hybrid wheel technology for Hyundai's N Performance products.
The partnership cements Dymag's position as a leading OEM partner and enables wider adoption of Dymag's cutting-edge innovation.
The wheel combines a carbon fibre outer rim with a precision-machined forged metallic centrepiece, resulting in weight savings of 40% to 50% over traditional cast aluminium wheels.
The technology also reduces rolling inertia and offers improved stiffness and strength.
A prototype of a new jointly-developed N Performance carbon hybrid wheel was unveiled on Hyundai’s stand at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the company also debuted its Ioniq 5 N hot crossover.
Dymag, a leading wheel design company since 1974, introduced carbon hybrid automotive wheels in 2004 for high-performance vehicles.
These patented wheels offer numerous benefits, including reduced unsprung mass, gyroscopic force reduction, improved steering feel, strength, durability, and safety.
They are tested to worldwide OEM standards and have inherent harmonic characteristics that reduce noise vehicle harm.
Carbon hybrid wheels also offer aesthetic advantages, with forged aluminum or magnesium centers providing greater design flexibility.
They require low upfront investment and can be produced quickly due to Dymag's patented design and production techniques.
Dymag offers a full range of 18-to-23-inch carbon hybrid wheels, to which it will add new 24-inch and 25-inch examples later this year.
Key investment comes from Hankuk Carbon, a leading manufacturer of advanced carbon materials, accelerating global mass production and collaborating with multiple OEMs for lightweight wheel supply agreements.
