Cops record statement of person who used fake number plate on McLaren car
By THE STAR | 05 July 2023KUALA LUMPUR: The police have recorded the statement of the vehicle owner who used a fake number plate on a McLaren supercar.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the individual's statement was recorded at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic police station.
"The case is being investigated under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987. The investigation paper will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor once the investigation is completed," he said when contacted.
It was previously reported that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had sought the help of the police to track down a man known as Opai, who is the husband of an actress.
The police had been asked to assist the investigation over the use of the number plate "QPA 1", which is not registered to a McLaren car.
KL JPJ deputy director Erick Jusiang said the department had to ask the police to help as the man had not cooperated even after a notice to come to the JPJ office was issued.
Previously, the man was heavily criticised by the public after a recent video in which he had allegedly insulted non-supercar vehicles at a car exhibition went viral.
