Car dealerships and car washes can resume business from Aug 16
By THE STAR | 15 August 2021PETALING JAYA: Car dealerships, car accessory sales shops and car wash services are among a new list of allowed activities and businesses permitted to operate from tomorrow in states under Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
Under the list released today, those who wish to use the businesses must have completed their vaccination regimen.
Individuals would be considered fully vaccinated 14 days after receiving the second dose of either the Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Sinovac vaccines, and 28 days after being jabbed with the single-dose Johnson & Johnson or CanSino vaccines.
In the announcement, the government said that 11 economic activities would be allowed. Aside from the car-related businesses, the others are electrical and electronic goods sales; sales of home and kitchen appliances; furniture sales; sales of sports equipment; sales centres; morning markets and farmers markets; jewellery stores; and hair salons and beauty centres, limited to basic hair cutting services.
The government also said that additional standard operating procedures for clothing, fashion and accessory stores, jewellery stores and hair salons would be implemented.
In a statement today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that these SOPs would include the wearing of gloves, the limiting of time between workers and customers and no usage of fitting rooms.
“Only those with complete digital vaccination certificates are allowed to access these businesses for their services,” said Muhyiddin.
Muhyiddin also said that all parks in Phase One areas would also be allowed to open for jogging, cycling and exercising with SOPs, but no crossing of borders would be allowed.
He added that all non-essential industries such as manufacturing, construction, mining and quarrying would be allowed to operate again from Aug 16 in all phases, in accordance with the vaccination rate of staff.
“The operating capacity, however, will be based on the percentage of employees vaccinated.
“Those with 80% to 100% vaccination rate can operate fully. Those with 60% to 79% vaccination rate can operate at 80% capacity and those with 40% to 59% vaccination rate can operate at 60% capacity.
He said that all the relaxations will be applied with the conditions that the 50% of the adults in these states have completed their vaccination and those who will be accessing the benefits have completed their vaccination.
He said that this decision was due to the reports from the Health Ministry that the recent actions by the government to arrest the surge of cases in the Greater Klang Valley has been fruitful with fewer patients reported at emergency wards of hospitals in the Klang Valley.
Muhyiddin added that there were no cases reported in Labuan on Saturday.
He also said that another 11 economic sectors would be reopened in Phase Two, which are photo services shops; used goods shops; florists and nurseries; crafts and souvenir shops; antique shops; toy shops; carpet shops; creative content and creative industry accessories shops; outdoor gadget shops; cosmetic, skincare and perfume shops; and tobacco shops including those selling vapes and e-cigarettes.
