CALLUM completes street-legal conversion of James Bond’s Jaguar C-X75 stunt car
By CARSIFU | 31 October 2024LONDON: British design firm CALLUM has reimagined the Jaguar C-X75 concept car, originally built for the 2015 James Bond film Spectre, into a refined, street-legal supercar.
Originally introduced as a concept at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Jaguar’s C-X75 was intended to reach production.
However, the global recession halted plans, and only seven prototypes were produced by Williams Advanced Engineering for use in Spectre.
Following filming, four of these stunt vehicles were sold to private collectors, and CALLUM, led by the car’s original designer Ian Callum, has now transformed chassis 001 into a modernised, road-ready supercar.
The re-engineered C-X75 reflects CALLUM’s growing portfolio of custom one-of-a-kind projects crafted at the company’s Warwick headquarters.
This follows CALLUM’s earlier conversion of chassis 007 and aims to further realise Jaguar’s vision for the vehicle as it might have appeared if released for public sale over a decade ago.
In this updated version, the original V8 engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing the car to perform both as a high-performing sports car and a daily-use vehicle.
Proprietary software and electronics developed by CALLUM enable drivers to switch between a road-focused driving mode and a sportier, dynamic mode, which delivers quicker gear changes, enhanced throttle response, and a powerful exhaust sound.
These performance upgrades provide a dual nature to the C-X75, allowing versatility suited for both urban driving and high-speed performance.
Inside, the stunt car’s functional interior was replaced with a luxurious, driver-centered design.
The cockpit now features dark green and cream tones, divided by a prominent 40-degree angled “waterline” running through the cabin, adding depth and sophistication.
Unique to CALLUM’s design, a metal “Arrowhead Necklace” trim frames the cockpit, extending down the centre console for a unified visual effect.
Three rotary controls equipped with integrated touchscreens are angled towards the driver, emphasising functionality and clean aesthetics. A wireless charging pad, Apple CarPlay, and a custom sound system enhance convenience and connectivity, creating a user-friendly interface.
The redesigned interior incorporates a variety of leather textures, blending dark and light shades that balance a sporty feel with comfort. CALLUM’s signature deconstructed tartan conceals a centre speaker within the sound system, complementing the car’s high-end appeal.
According to CALLUM design head Aleck Jones, the interior was carefully crafted to merge sportiness with refinement.
Exterior modifications focus on maintaining the original silhouette while adding carefully curated enhancements.
More than 1,000 hours of labour went into the bodywork, resulting in a polished Willow Green finish with subtle yellow undertones inspired by the hues of willow leaves.
Additional details include machined aluminum accents on the windows, carbon fiber elements on the quarter light intakes and rear diffuser, and an engraved C-X75 emblem on the exhaust, highlighting the car’s craftsmanship.
Optimised light diffusion on the rear lights and a polished metal grille add to the car’s distinctive appearance.
To support the car’s increased performance, CALLUM developed an active aerodynamic package, which delivers added downforce at speeds over 60kph for improved stability and handling.
An air brake feature enhances control during intense braking, and a hydraulic front lift system provides added clearance for urban driving. Extensive testing has refined the car’s road capabilities, resulting in a balanced, predictable drive through curves and straight-line stability.
The C-X75 rides on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, mounted on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, providing optimal traction for both road and occasional track use.
This C-X75 project aligns with CALLUM’s broader objectives, as the firm expands its bespoke offerings to include limited-production models like the CALLUM Vanquish 25 and low-volume interior design projects for other high-performance cars.
