SHANGHAI: Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD said today its electrified pickup truck will be called Shark and will feature a plug-in hybrid system called Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO), which it developed for improving off-road driving experiences.
BYD made the statement on its Weibo account but did not disclose the price for the truck.
The announcement comes days ahead of the Beijing Autoshow, due to start on Thursday.
Various Asian automakers are piling into the electric pick-up truck segment.
Both Toyota and Isuzu have announced they plan to introduce electric versions of their respective Hilux and D-Max in 2025.
Even VinFast is getting into the act, showing off its VF Wild concept truck at the 2024 CES in Las Vegas in January. The production series of the VF Wild is rumoured to launch in 2025 as well. - Reuters/Various Sources
