BMW steps into 2025 with major EV range boost and tech upgrades

MUNICH: BMW is rolling out a raft of enhancements across its model range for spring 2025, focusing on electric drivetrain upgrades, fresh engine variants, and expanded standard equipment.

The all-electric i5 benefits from silicon carbide semiconductor components and new low rolling-resistance tyres, increasing range by up to 47km depending on specification.

This applies to both the BMW i5 Saloon and Touring variants, with the i5 xDrive40 Touring showing efficiency gains of up to nine percent.

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé receives two new versions in March 2025.

The entry-level 216 Gran Coupé uses a 90 kW three-cylinder petrol engine, while the 223 xDrive Gran Coupé features a four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology producing 160 kW, offering particularly quick responses.

The X3 range grows in May with the X3 40d xDrive, powered by a six-cylinder diesel delivering 223 kW and 670 Nm of torque, aided by 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance.

Plug-in hybrid models of the BMW X1, 2 Series Active Tourer, 7 Series, and XM gain faster AC charging at 11 kW, reducing charging times.

The BMW iX, from March 2025, comes with Digital Key Plus as standard, providing easier device setup and allowing up to 18 digital keys with varied permissions.

Additional digital improvements include the YouTube app on Operating System 9 and an enhanced BMW Maps interface on OS 8.5.

Adaptive matrix LED headlights become standard on the X5 and X6, while the X7 gains Parking Assistant Professional. M60i xDrive versions of the X5, X6, and X7 now include the M Sport package Pro, Harman Kardon surround sound, and sun protection glazing.

For the BMW M5, new upholstery and upgraded window switchgear in high-gloss black are available. Finally, 17-inch Star-spoke style 875 light alloy wheels will be offered for select 2 Series Active Tourer and X1 models, boosting customisation and style.
