BMW M2-based car to serve as new entry-level model for racing from 2026

MUNICH: The BMW M2 will serve as the basis for an official race car.

A brief press statement BMW released yesterday appears to suggest this direction.

The new M2 racer was recently teased on social media by BMW's M division, revealing a camouflaged vehicle but offering few details.

BMW M Motorsport said it is expanding its tradition of affordable, entry-level racing cars with the development of a new model set to debut in 2026.

Historically, BMW's M Motorsport division has introduced vehicles like the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and M2 CS Racing as gateways to higher GT4 and GT3 racing classes.

The car is expected to target a spec racing class, similar to the Toyota GR86 Cup or Ford Mustang Dark Horse R spec, rather than competing in GT3 or GT4 categories.

The specific racing series or events where the M2 will compete remain unclear, but its design points to the possibility it will cater to regional racing circuits or specialised racing formats.

As BMW continues to refine the M2 racer, more information will emerge before its track debut in 2026.
