KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia today kicked off 2025 with a four-product debut here in conjunction with its business briefing to the media.
Two BMW cars were introduced along with a MINI and a motorcycle.
Two distinct models joined its BMW lineup: the locally assembled 530i M Sport, expanding the 5 Series range, and the fully imported and updated all-electric i4 eDrive35 M Sport. It also rolled out the locally assembled MINI Countryman S ALL4 as well as the R 12 cruiser.
Only the i4 price is confirmed, while the 5 Series, Countryman and R 12 prices are still pending government approval. BMW first announced the Countryman as a locally assembled model just last week.
Prices are as follows:
> i4 eDrive35 M Sport from RM294,800 (add RM20,800 for optional 5-year extended warranty and service package)
> R 12 at RM123,000 (estimated)
> 530i M Sport from RM400,000 (estimated)
> Countryman S ALL4 from RM259,000 (estimated)
Both the 5 Series and i4 models aim to provide a broad set of options for those seeking either an executive sedan with increased power or an emission-free fastback for urban and long-distance use, respectively.
530i M Sport
The BMW 530i M Sport is positioned as a higher-powered choice in the popular 5 Series portfolio. It features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology, generating 190kW (258hp) and 400Nm of torque.
This setup enables a 0 to 100kph sprint in 6.2 seconds and a maximum speed of 250kph.
The vehicle includes Adaptive Suspension Professional with Integral Active Steering, allowing the shock absorbers to adjust electronically to varying road and driving conditions, while Integral Active Steering aids cornering stability and improves agility during low-speed maneuvers.
Drivers can select modes such as SPORT or other options under BMW’s My Modes system to fine-tune steering and suspension parameters.
The exterior of the 530i M Sport retains the recognisable proportions of the 5 Series, with a front kidney grille that has grown noticeably in size. It comes with the BMW Iconic Glow package, illuminating the grille frame, and incorporates slim vertical LED headlights with a distinct daytime running light signature.
The roofline flows smoothly into the rear, creating a more streamlined profile, complemented by slender LED taillights and 20-inch M light alloy wheels in star spoke style 938M. Satin aluminum detailing accents the body, while the familiar Hofmeister kink remains, preserving a notable design cue.
Inside, the 530i M Sport provides redesigned sport seats that include electric adjustability, memory functions, and lumbar support for enhanced comfort. Passengers benefit from four-zone climate control and ample rear cabin space, with headroom and legroom improvements over the outgoing model.
The cockpit centres on the BMW Curved Display, which merges a 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch control display. This interface runs BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect, and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, natural voice commands, and a user-friendly menu bar.
An Interaction Bar stretches across the dashboard and door panels, offering touch-sensitive climate controls. Additional interior details include anthracite headliner, dark silver M accents paired with aluminum trim, and a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 18 speakers and a 655-watt amplifier.
Safety and driver assistance systems include Driving Assistant Plus with Active Cruise Control featuring Stop & Go, and Steering and Lane Control Assist to help maintain lane position. Lane Departure Warning with lane return assistance provides additional security above 70kph.
For tight urban environments, standard Parking Assistant handles maneuvering tasks with Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant. Parking Assistant Plus—standard on this model—enables panoramic and 3D views on the Control Display, with Remote 3D View accessible via smartphone for real-time monitoring of the car’s surroundings.
BMW Drive Recorder and anti-theft recorder functionalities are also included. Connectivity highlights comprise Digital Key Plus with ultra-wideband technology for secure vehicle access, BMW Maps for navigation, and an interior camera offering both snapshots and security recording.
The 530i M Sport can be specified in several exterior colours such as Black Sapphire Metallic, Mineral White Metallic, Phytonic Blue Metallic, Brooklyn Grey Metallic and Cape York Green Metallic, with upholstery options including Leather Merino in Black/Atlas Grey or Copper Brown/Atlas Grey.
Introduced alongside the 530i M Sport is the BMW i4 eDrive35 M Sport, a fully electric four-door coupé that balances efficiency with performance.
Its fifth-generation eDrive powertrain, which eliminates rare-earth materials, delivers 210kW (286hp) and 400Nm of torque, achieving a 0 to 100kph run in 6.0 seconds.
The vehicle’s battery layout, installed in a skateboard-style configuration, provides up to 500 km of range, while keeping the center of gravity low for balanced handling.
Wide tracks at both axles, along with specific wheel camber settings on the five-link rear axle, enhance agility. The suspension tuning aims for a comfortable ride on varied road surfaces, even with a distinctly sporty setup.
Charging capabilities include up to 180 kW DC fast charging, delivering an 80% battery charge in 32 minutes.
A quick 10-minute top-up can yield 144–182km of additional range, depending on conditions. For slower charging, such as using a wallbox, the vehicle supports up to 11kW AC, achieving a full recharge in about seven hours.
BMW Maps optimises charging stops on longer journeys and provides route guidance to charging stations, with location data available through the My BMW app. Driver aids include Attentiveness Assistant, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Parking Assistant Plus, and Driving Assistant, which maintains safety in various traffic scenarios.
i4 eDrive35 M Sport
The i4 eDrive35 M Sport’s exterior design incorporates a sleek silhouette, newly styled 19-inch aerodynamic M wheels in 996M Bicolour, and updated Adaptive LED headlights with revised lighting graphics and BMW Selective Beam.
Laser technology applied to the taillights was previously limited to specific BMW M models, enhancing nighttime visibility. Inside, the flattened M sports steering wheel offers a modern, functional layout.
The cabin centres on a BMW Curved Display that merges a 12.3-inch instrument display with a 14.9-inch control display, including a Head-Up Display for added convenience.
Interior upgrades include a revised instrument panel, customisable cascade lighting in the front and rear, an exterior and interior mirror package, and M PerformTex upholstery featuring reduced CO2 emissions during production.
This upholstery combines a Black base color with M piping elements to acknowledge BMW’s performance heritage.
Similar to the 530i M Sport, the i4 eDrive35 M Sport offers optional M Performance Parts for customers wishing to further customize appearance. Exterior paint choices now encompass Cape York Green and Fire Red, in addition to Alpine White, Mineral White, Black Sapphire, M Portimao Blue and M Brooklyn Grey.
By presenting both the 530i M Sport and the i4 eDrive35 M Sport, BMW provides alternatives for those seeking either a more powerful internal-combustion business sedan or an electric four-door coupé with comparable practicality.
Both models integrate driver-assist features, modern infotainment and various customisation options.
The two launches reflect BMW’s strategy of diversifying its lineup to accommodate different powertrain preferences, reinforcing its presence in the premium automotive market.
