BMW iX gets a facelift: More range, new base variant


MUNICH: BMW's iX model has been refreshed for 2025 with improved performance, increased range, and more luxury features.

The latest version of the all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) now boasts a range of up to 701km on a single charge, setting a new benchmark in its class.

BMW said this is achieved through advanced eDrive technology and enhanced performance electronics.

Notably, energy consumption has been reduced by over 8%, increasing range by up to 60km for the iX xDrive60.

The new iX is available in three variants: the xDrive45, xDrive60, and the performance-focused M70 xDrive.

All variants benefit from significant power upgrades, with the new base variant iX xDrive45 now delivering 408 hp, and the iX xDrive60 producing 544 hp. The M70 xDrive, the top version, offers a substantial 659 hp, enabling a 0-100kph acceleration in just 3.8 seconds. It features a top speed of 250 kph.

The iX's battery capacity has been increased, with the xDrive45 now featuring a 94.8 kWh battery, while the other variants offer larger batteries up to 109.1 kWh.

Charging efficiency has also been enhanced, with faster DC charging capabilities up to 195 kW for the higher models. The iX also supports smart charging features, such as route optimisation via the My BMW App, which includes charging stops based on real-time information.

Exterior updates include a more striking front design, with a redesigned BMW kidney grille and optional M Sport packages.

New wheel options, including 22- and 23-inch M light-alloy wheels, provide improved performance and aesthetics.

The iX also includes advanced driver assistance systems, such as Highway Assistant, Active Lane Change Assistant, and Parking Assistant Professional for automated driving and parking.

Inside, the iX combines progressive luxury with sporty features, including M multifunction seats and a M leather steering wheel. Standard features include adaptive LED headlights, heated seats, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Digital services, including video streaming and in-car gaming, are powered by BMW iDrive 8.5, with 5G connectivity for an enhanced user experience.

Production of the new BMW iX will continue at BMW's Dingolfing plant, with the vehicle set for release by mid-2025 in key markets like the UK, United States and Germany.
