BMW iDrive 6 Android users lose Spotify
By RIZAL JOHAN | 18 August 2020
MUNICH: BMW has announced that Spotify would no longer support Android users using the car maker's older infotainment software.
Spotify has abandoned support for the Apps 4 Automotive (A4A) technology which allowed an Android device to talk to the iDrive 6 system.
"Vehicles with infotainment software older than BMW Operating System 7 are affected. Apple devices are excluded from this," BMW said in a statement.
BMW clarified that it is still possible to play audio directly from a mobile device in the vehicle via the Bluetooth interface.
Some Android users were caught off guard by the latest Spotify update.
