BMW Group Malaysia leads premium EV segment with over 1,600 units sold in 2024
By CARSIFU | 20 November 2024KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia has delivered over 8,700 vehicles across its BMW and MINI brands as of Q3 2024, with more than 1,600 being fully-electric models, accounting for 19% of total sales.
The company continues to dominate the premium electric vehicle (EV) segment in Malaysia, offering internal combustion, plug-in hybrid, and fully-electric vehicles to cater to different customer needs.
Managing director Benjamin Nagel spoke about the company’s “Power of Choice” philosophy, which ensures customers access to advanced technologies across all drivetrain systems while upholding the brand’s promise of “Sheer Driving Pleasure.”
In 2024, BMW Group Malaysia introduced several new models, including the fully-electric iX2 and i5 M60, as well as updated variants of the 520i and the all-new MINI family, further expanding its portfolio of premium vehicles.
To support the growing EV market, the automaker has established over 2,020 charging facilities in Malaysia through partnerships with various providers. Additionally, more than 100 BMW i and MINI charging stations are available at authorised dealerships and key partner locations nationwide, with plans for further infrastructure expansion.
BMW Group Malaysia has also leveraged high-profile partnerships and events, such as collaborations with Malaysia Airlines, the World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention 2024, and the Maybank Championship 2024, to promote premium electric mobility.
Globally, the BMW Group reported a 19.1% increase in fully-electric vehicle sales, delivering over 300,000 units between January and September 2024.
BMW Group sales senior vice president (Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa) Jean-Philippe Parain said Malaysia was a strategic market for the company's sustainability initiatives in the region.
The company aims to strengthen collaborations and infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of future mobility solutions, positioning Malaysia as a leader in South-East Asia’s automotive transformation.
