BMW Group Malaysia dominated premium and EV market in 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia retained its position as Malaysia’s leading premium automaker and electric vehicle (EV) provider in 2024, delivering over 13,500 units of BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad vehicles, 66% of which were locally assembled.

Notably, over 2,700 electrified vehicles accounted for 20.5% of total deliveries, reinforcing BMW Group Malaysia’s leadership in the premium EV segment with nearly 33,000 electrified units on Malaysian roads to date.

The BMW brand recorded over 10,500 vehicle deliveries, MINI achieved over 1,400, and BMW Motorrad surpassed 1,600 motorcycles.

Among key successes, the BMW X1 sDrive20i led sales with nearly 1,500 units, achieving a 195% growth, while the newly introduced BMW iX2 xDrive30 M Sport became the top performer in the BMW i segment with 460 units delivered within nine months.

BMW Group Malaysia expanded its EV infrastructure, adding charging facilities in the Klang Valley, Negri Sembilan, and Pahang. The network now comprises over 2,020 charging points through partnerships with Gentari, ChargEV, Yinson Greentech and others, alongside over 100 BMW and MINI charging stations at dealerships.

Globally, the BMW Group delivered over 426,000 fully-electric vehicles, marking a 13.5% growth in the segment.

In Malaysia, the group launched 27 new models, including 12 fully-electric variants. The introduction of the BMW i5 eDrive40 M Sport and MINI Countryman SE ALL4 boosted electrified vehicle popularity.

BMW Group Malaysia also celebrated 20 years of its Regional Parts Distribution Centre, unveiling expanded facilities in Johor Baru with advanced storage and sustainability features.

The automaker exported over 11,000 vehicles to Thailand and the Philippines, cementing its role as the largest vehicle exporter from Malaysia in the Asean region.

BMW Group Malaysia said customer satisfaction remained a priority, with BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad achieving global-leading net promoter scores of 98, 97 and 96 respectively, supported by an extensive dealer network.

“Our dedication to technology openness and the power of choice remains a cornerstone of our strategy – one that we intend to carry forward in the year to come," BMW Group Malaysia managing director Benjamin Nagel said at the company's business briefing here today.

"We continue to empower customers to embrace Sheer Driving Pleasure in a way that best suits their needs, be it through cutting-edge BEVs (battery electric vehicles), plug-in hybrids, or high-performance internal combustion engines."

The briefing was held in conjunction with the launch of the BMW i4 eDrive35 M Sport and R 12 motorcycle. Two other vehicles, the  locally assembled 530i M Sport and MINI Countryman S ALL4, were also unveiled.
