Audi to use even numbers for BEVs, says mag
By CARSIFU | 12 March 2023LONDON: Audi will be revising the naming convention for its car models as it introduces more electric cars, according to a British motoring magazine.
Auto Express reported that Audi would reserve even numbers for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), while odd numbers are assigned to cars with internal combustion engines (ICEs).
That change also applies to the S and RS performance models.
Audi BEVs would retain the "e-tron" suffix as is currently practised.
This would mean the A4 ICE car would be renamed to A5 but its BEV version would be known as A4 e-tron.
At the top end, the RS 4 and RS 6 wagons could possibly be sold as RS 4 e-tron and RS 6 e-tron respectively.
Audi had previously said it would make its last combustion-engined cars (petrol and diesel) by 2033 and that new models coming out from 2026 would all be BEVs.
