All-new smart #3 launched from RM175,000
By JAY WONG | 10 July 2024KUALA LUMPUR: smart Malaysia, the official distributor of smart vehicles in Malaysia under Pro-Net, has expanded its line-up with the launch of the smart #3.
Available in three variants, the smart #3 starts with the entry-level Pro variant costing RM175,000 and is followed by the Premium (RM215,000) before ending with the range-topping Brabus (RM255,000) - all prices are on-the-road without insurance.
As standard, the #3 is covered by a four-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, two-year unlimited mileage spare parts warranty, 24/7 roadside service assistance, eight-year or 200,000km high-voltage battery warranty and an eight-year or 150,000km high-voltage component warranty.
From now until July 31, new owners will receive a free 22kW smartCharge Home Charger worth RM3,200 with a two-year warranty.
Also included is a complimentary six-item Accessories Package worth RM2,500, a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) adapter worth RM800 with a two-year warranty, and a complimentary five-year or 60GB worth of Internet Data.
There are up to 12 exterior colour combinations that be had with the Pro getting Digital White or Meta Black while the Premium gets Digital White, Ceramic Cream, Future Green, matte Electron Blue, Cyber Silver and Quantum Blue.
The Brabus is available in Photon Orange, but if matte Atom Grey or Meta Black is picked, it comes with an option to add a red roof while Digital White can be had with a black roof.
Three colours are available for the cabin including black, grey or brown.
As the larger brother of the #1, the #3 is 4,400mm long (+130mm), 1,844mm wide (+22mm) and 1,556mm tall (-80mm).
The #3 also has a slightly better drag coefficient of 0.27Cd as compared to the #1's 0.29Cd.
Just like all smart vehicles, the battery pack is located within the floorboard while an electric motor is mounted on the rear axle.
The only exception is the Brabus variant which sees an electric motor mounted on the front axle for an all-wheel-drive experience.
Although both the Pro and Premium variants use the same electric motor capable of producing 200kW and 343Nm of instant torque, the Pro is fitted with a 49kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that can provide up to 325km (WLTP) of range.
The Premium and Brabus variants use a 66kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NMC) battery instead and can travel up to 455km and 415km, respectively.
While top speed has been limited to a maximum of 180kph, the Pro and Premium variants can sprint from 0 to 100kph in 5.8 seconds.
The dual-motored Brabus cuts the sprint time down to 3.7 seconds via Rocket mode and this allows for a maximum combined systems output of 315kW and 543Nm to be unleashed.
Bringing the #3's state-of-charge (SoC) from 10% to 80% can take about three hours to accomplish via an AC charger that can dish out 22kW.
However, the Pro variant is the only variant that's been limited to 7kW.
With a faster DC charger, bringing the #3's SoC from 10% to 80% can take around 30 minutes.
Among the list of standard goodies for the Pro is the inclusion of 19-inch (low-drag) Flux Wheels with 245/45 series tyres, a powered tailgate, CyberSpark LED headlights, an illuminated door logo on the front fenders, hidden pop-out door handles, "smart" welcome lights, dynamic rear LED light clusters and frameless doors.
Three new levels of regenerative braking (Low, Medium and High) are available along with 21 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Inside, although looking rather similar to the #1, notable differences include turbine-styled air vents for that association with Mercedes-Benz and newly-styled front seats that bear the smart logo on the headrest and at the rear of the seats.
Although the Pro comes with a panoramic glass roof, it is touted to have improved heat rejection while a special coating blocks out 99% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.
For early birds, a clip-on sunshade for the roof will be provided within the accessories package.
A large 12.8-inch touchscreen and a 9.2-inch instrument cluster are part of the standard provisions along with powered and heated front seats and mono-zone climate controls.
The Premium adds on adaptive highbeam assist for the automatic headlights, an Illuminated Front Grille, 10-inch full-colour heads-up display, 13-speaker Beats sound system, Automatic Parking Assistant (APA), a hands-free "kick" sensor for the tailgate, ambient lighting and 19-inch Torque wheels.
Moving to the Brabus means the addition of a rear spoiler, the adornment of Brabus badges on the lower regions of its exterior, larger 20-inch Synchro wheels with 245/40 series tyres and red brake callipers that hide a sport-tuned suspension.
Red seatbelts, aluminium sport pedals, partially-wrapped Alcantara steering wheel and grippy microfibre suede inserts for the seats are the new add ons.
"The smart #3 will have significant potential in the premium segment, reinforcing our commitment to delivering excellence," said smart Malaysia chief executive officer Zhang Qiang.
Zhang added that the company intends to maintain a premium ownership experience by including an exceptional aftersales service with readily available parts, an integrated public charging map and a seamless digital ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the company also launched its first smart Tour brand roadshow which was held in conjunction with the #3's launch.
The show is currently being held at Pavilion Bukit Jalil from July 11 to 14 before moving to Setia Alam Convention Centre (July 20-21), Gurney Plaza, Penang (Sept 4-8) and will finally conclude at Mid Valley South Key, Johor Baru (Sept 19-22).
Also, the company took the opportunity to launch its smartCO programme which is designed to offer more business opportunities for smart owners and exclusive privileges from businesses promoted by smart owners.
In line with its commitment to expanding their charging ecosystem, the company announced that two new additional Charging PointOperators (CPOs) – DC Handal and Carput Zap have now been included.
This brings the total to six CPOs under Pro-Net’s partnership to further enhance its Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) and Hello smart App ecosystem, thereby providing access to up to 80% of nationwide charging stations with real-time charging information.
