By CARSIFU | 16 October 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) has refreshed its popular Triton double cab pick-up truck lineup with the latest sixth-generation.
The variants offered are Triton Athlete 4x4 automatic transmission (AT) priced at RM165,980, Triton Premium 4x4 AT (RM145,980), Triton GL 4x4 AT (RM116,980), Triton GL 4x4 manual transmission (RM114,980) and the first-time Triton Single Cab 4x4 MT (RM101,980).
Prices are on-the-road without insurance for individual registration in Peninsular Malaysia.
The Athlete also comes with a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage, for bookings made by Dec 31.
The rest of the variants come with a five-year warranty with a 200,000km mileage limit, whichever comes first.
The new model marks a significant milestone in Mitsubishi Motors’ commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions, with an emphasis on outstanding driving confidence and superior handling to meet the needs of adventure-seekers to business entrepreneurs.
The new Triton's Dynamic Shield front design concept evokes high performance and confidence-inspiring abilities with a sense of strength through a robust three-dimensional front grille styling and accentuated fenders.
The daytime running lights feature three L-shaped LED lights resembling the "sharp gaze of a hawk" which works in combination with the three-dimensional, three-light headlights below.
The rear gets T-shaped taillights that emphasise width while accentuating the sturdy appearance.
The interior comes with SUV-inspired interior comforts and versatile storage compartments.
The Athlete and Premium variants get an Apple CarPlay- and Android Auto-ready centre touchscreen display that supports MP3, USB, Bluetooth and Voice Command, front and rear parking sensors, Hill Descend Control, and reverse camera.
The Athlete also gets additional items such as Adaptive Cruise Control, tyre pressure monitoring system and electric power steering.
The new model is bigger than the previous model and is built on a freshly-developed frame chassis that has a bending rigidity increase of 40% and a torsional rigidity increase of 60%.
Weight increase has been minimised by increasing the ratio of high-tensile steel used.
The suspension has also been revised for excellent ride comfort and steering stability.
Wheels are 18-inch for the Athlete and Premium while the rest are equipped with 16-inch wheels.
The top-of-the-range Athlete variant is equipped with an Euro 5 2.4-litre 4N16 Mivec two-stage turbodiesel engine that develops 204PS and 470Nm of torque that is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Super Select 4WD-II system.
The Super Select 4WD-II system allows drivers to choose from four options of 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (full-time four-wheel drive), 4HLc (locked centre differential) and 4LLc (locked centre differential with lower gears).
It works in tandem with the seven drive modes including on-road modes - an increase over the four off-road modes in the previous model.
Along with Normal mode that is available in all 4WD modes, 2H offers Eco mode for higher fuel economy, 4H offers Gravel and Snow modes, 4HLc offers Mud and Sand modes for traction performance, while 4LLc provides Rock mode.
The Athlete also gets a newly adopted Active Yaw Control (AYC) system that provides sportier driving and enhances cornering performance by applying light braking to the inside front wheel when cornering to improve safety on slippery surfaces.
The other Triton variants are equipped with an Euro 4 2.4-litre 4N16 turbodiesel engine producing 184PS and 430Nm of torque and use a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission featuring an Easy Select 4WD system 4WD offering 2H (rear-wheel drive), 4H (locked centre differential) and 4L (for low-gear driving).
Standard items include airbags, Emergency Stop Signal system (ESS), Brake override system, Active Limited Slip Differential (Brake Control), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Active Stability Control (ASC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Trailer Stability Assist (TSA), and collapsible steering wheel and brake pedal among others.
The Athlete and Premium also get the advanced Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) items such as Forward Collision Mitigation System, Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Alert (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Auto High Beam (AHB).
MMM CEO Shinya Ikeda said the all-new Triton was developed based on the "All Action" concept.
"The key features of the all-new Triton are exclusively developed by Mitsubishi Motors, including a robust ladder frame and body, tough chassis, powerful engine and 4WD system that achieves excellent road handling and stability.
