Chery Malaysia did not provide a price indication during a media preview, but it's worth noting that it competes against the BYD Atto 3 (Extended Range variant) which has a retail price of RM167,800.
The two-wheel drive Omoda E5 offers a range of up to 430km (based on WLTP), and its single motor is powered by a 61kWh blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.
Power output is 150kW/201hp and torque is 340Nm.
AC charging is at 9.9kW and DC is 80kW, and fast DC charging can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes.
The 0-100kph sprint is done in 7.6 seconds.
The dashboard has a clean, minimalist look, and is dominated by a 24.6-inch 3D true curved interface screen, with the infotainment system powered by a Qualcomm 8155 chip.
Features on the Omoda E5 include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic power-on upon entry, automatic shutdown upon exit, creep function (vehicle moves upon brake pedal release), one-pedal driving technology (speed retardation when foot is lifted off accelerator pedal), Panic Button (emergency braking activated when Park button is pressed while driving) and an active air intake grille which opens/closes based on motor temperature and aerodynamic needs.
It also has Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology with an 3.3kW output to power electrical items.
The Omoda E5 will come with 17 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features which according to Chery Malaysia, is capable of recognising pedestrians and cyclists.
