ZURICH: ABB has launched the RB 1000i-S paint atomiser, aimed at increasing efficiency and sustainability in automotive paint shops.
The new atomiser, mounted on ABB robots, improves paint transfer efficiency by over 10% and reduces paint waste by at least 30% compared to its predecessor, the RB 1000i. These improvements also help lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, contributing to more eco-friendly manufacturing processes.
According to ABB's robotics division president, Marc Segura, the RB 1000i-S is part of ABB’s broader initiative to help automotive manufacturers meet carbon-neutral goals by 2035.
The new atomiser also reduces Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions and energy consumption in paint processes, potentially saving companies significant costs.
For example, a factory producing 200,000 cars annually could save up to 50,000 litres of paint, translating to US$500,000 (RM2.2mil) in direct financial savings.
Customers can order the RB 1000i-S with new paint robots or upgrade existing RB 1000i units with service kits that replace key components. These upgrades extend the product’s lifespan and reduce waste, supporting a circular economy.
ABB’s broader robotics solutions, including energy efficiency services, are designed to help manufacturers reduce energy consumption by up to 30% and help promote sustainable production.
