KUALA LUMPUR: The new Mitsubishi Xpander, a seven-seater vehicle, will be launched in Malaysia this year.

Following the success of the new Xpander launch in Indonesia, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation rolled out the Xpander across the Asean region.

In Indonesia where the Xpander was introduced in 2017, it is categorised as an MPV and a variant called Xpander Cross, with crossover-styling, followed last November. In Malaysia, the Xpander is being marketed as a crossover.

The new Xpander follows the iteration of the "Dynamic Shield" front design concept, which is incorporated in every newly launched Mitsubishi car. The "Dynamic Shield" is said to express high performance and a sense of protection for the driver and passengers.

Mitsubishi said the Xpander blends functionality with an adventurous SUV-inspired styling, "making it a suitable car for every Malaysian lifestyle."

“The Xpander is not just an important model for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), but across the Asean region as well. As of June 2020, the car has reached cumulative sales of around 256,000 units," said MMM CEO Tomoyuki Shinnishi.

"The success of the Xpander in neighbouring countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam reflects how well-suited this car is to meet the needs of Malaysian customers."

The Xpander has won numerous awards in the countries where it is sold.
