BYD in Malaysia exceeds 10,000 unit sales
By CARSIFU | 08 October 2024KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Motors, the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, has achieved a significant milestone with the sale of over 10,000 BYD vehicles across the country in less than two years.
To celebrate the achievement, it organised a drive event called "BYD Dream Drive Melaka 2024" for BYD owners.
Melaka was chosen to coincide with this year’s 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, making it an apt destination given its historical connections with China dating back to the 15th century.
The convoy featured over 60 BYD cars and was flagged off from the BYD showroom in Ara Damansara, bringing together BYD owners for an exciting 2D1N trip to Melaka.
In Melaka, the participants enjoyed a cultural highlight with a visit to Encore Melaka, where they attended a mesmerising performance of the Puteri Hang Li Po Musical Theatre.
Inspired by the historical tale of Sultan Mansur Shah and the Ming Dynasty princess Hang Li Po, this performance honoured the golden anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, adding a deeper cultural dimension to the event.
Sime Darby Motors managing director of Southeast Asia, Jeffrey Gan, said the milestone reflected the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the region and Sime Darby’s strong position as a leader in EV.
"Our commitment to providing the best experience and services through this strategic partnership with BYD has contributed to this success," he said.
BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said the milestone reflected the trust and support that customers had in embracing the future of mobility with BYD.
"It’s been an incredible journey with Sime Darby Motors and we look forward to elevating sustainable driving experiences in Malaysia," he said.
BYD Cars Malaysia is now targeting on reaching the next 10,000 cars milestone in a shorter timeframe as it continues its journey towards becoming a market leader in electric mobility.
BYD has established itself as the No.1 electric vehicle brand in Malaysia, largely attributed to its strong focus on network development and customer experience. Sime Darby Motors, the automotive arm of Sime Darby Bhd, was picked as the distributor of BYD passenger electric vehicles on Dec 8, 2022.
The BYD network now includes 26 outlets comprising 16 3S centres and 10 1S centres.
BYD aims to increase the number of outlets to 30 by the end of the year.
