TRIUMPH’S modern classic line up has always balanced heritage styling with contemporary engineering, and the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 X is no exception.
Designed as a more accessible and road-friendly alternative to the Scrambler 1200 XE, the 1200 X still carries the DNA of its bigger sibling but with subtle refinements for daily usability.
While it retains the retro charm, rugged stance, and off-road-inspired geometry, the Scrambler 1200 X caters more towards riders who prefers comfort, versatility, and an easy-going ride without sacrificing performance.
Triumph consistently excels in aesthetics, and the Scrambler 1200 X exemplifies their experience in blending classic and modern design.
The signature high-mounted exhaust pipes, muscular fuel tank, and round LED headlamp ensure that the bike remains a distinctive part of the Scrambler family.

Unlike the 1200 XE, which boasts taller suspension and aggressive off-road ergonomics, the X sits slightly lower, making it more appealing for riders of different heights.
The craftsmanship is top-notch, with a well-finished chassis, brushed aluminium pipe covers, and premium switchgear that reinforces Triumph’s reputation for high-quality materials.
The instrument cluster is a single circular full-colour TFT display offering clear information without looking out of place on a retro-style motorcycle.
For a bike rooted in the scrambler tradition, the 1200 X comes equipped with a solid set of electronic rider aids.

It features multiple riding modes—Rain, Road, Sport that adjust throttle response, traction control, and ABS intervention to suit different riding conditions.
The inclusion of switchable traction control and cornering ABS is particularly useful, allowing me to fine-tune to my riding style.
The heart of the Scrambler 1200 X is Triumph’s 1,200cc parallel-twin engine, producing 89hp and 110Nm of torque.
This high-torque powerplant delivers a broad spread of grunt across the rev range, making it ideal for different riding scenarios.

The throttle response is smooth and predictable, providing a confident feel whether cruising at low speeds or overtaking on the highway.
On the highway to Karak town, the Scrambler 1200 X is a relaxed and capable performer.
The torquey engine means minimal downshifting is required when overtaking, and the bike maintains stability at higher speeds.
Wind protection is minimal due to the upright design, but this is expected on a scrambler-style motorcycle.

The ride is comfortable, and the well-padded seat ensures that longer journeys aren’t punishing.
In Kuala Lumpur city traffic, the Scrambler 1200 X feels surprisingly manageable for a 1,200cc machine.
The slightly lower seat height compared to the XE makes it more approachable, and the smooth clutch engagement helps in slow-moving conditions.
The wide handlebars provide good leverage, making it easy to filter through traffic, though the high-mounted exhaust pipes do generate some heat during standstill.

Scrambler 1200 X shows its versatility while riding in Genting Highlands.
The torquey twin-cylinder engine pulls strongly out of tight bends, and the balanced chassis provides a planted feel.
It may not be as aggressive as a dedicated adventure bike, but it holds its own when the roads get twisty.
The upright riding position allows for good visibility and control, making it a joy to carve through mountain passes.

When it comes to cornering, the Scrambler 1200 X delivers a stable and predictable performance.
Despite its scrambler styling, it handles like a well-sorted road bike, thanks to a stiff chassis and well-tuned suspension.
For riders who want the classic scrambler look with a more approachable and road-focused feel, the Scrambler 1200 X is an excellent choice.
It retains much of the charm and capability of the 1200 XE while getting refinements in key areas that make it a better everyday machine.

The combination of strong performance, high build quality, and practical rider aids makes it a solid contender in the modern classic segment.
The Scrambler 1200 X features a more road-biased suspension setup compared to the XE which has longer travel.
The suspension travel is slightly reduced, making the bike feel more planted on the road while still offering decent compliance on uneven surfaces.
It handles bumps and road imperfections well, though hardcore off-road riders may find the setup less forgiving than the 1200 XE’s longer-travel components.

Braking are handled by twin Brembo 4.32 callipers on 320mm discs at the front, paired with a single 255mm disc at the rear.
The setup delivers strong, progressive stopping power with a good level of feedback.
The Cornering ABS system enhances safety, especially in the heavy rain which I braved for a good 30 minutes before reaching Goh Tong Jaya.

The bite from the front brakes is not aggressive but it suits the Scrambler’s character, offering control and predictability.
The 2024 Scrambler 1200 X, priced at RM80,900, is a well-rounded modern classic that delivers an enjoyable and capable ride across various conditions.
While it lacks some of the extreme off-road capabilities of the 1200 XE, the Scrambler 1200 X compensates with better road manners, a lower seat height, and improved accessibility.
